Chiba City International Art Triennale: The Open and The Intimate
In Chiba, Slow Art Collective was invited to bridge two vastly different social realities through the act of weaving. we explored two radical extremes of public participation, weaving a connection between the city’s busiest hub and its most secluded rooms.
At Chiba Monorail Station, we engaged the "unselected" passer-by. This was an open-access installation that invited the chaotic, high-speed energy of daily commuters to slow down and leave a collective mark on the city's fabric.
At Chiba Children’s Hospital, we took the opposite approach. Through our mobile carts, Ami Ami No.1 & No.2, we delivered the project exclusively to children confined to their beds. For those unable to step out into the world, we brought the world of making to them.
Working across these two extremes was a profound learning experience. It deepened our ability to adapt to diverse social needs, proving that whether in a crowded terminal or a quiet ward, the invitation to create can be tailored to meet anyone, anywhere.
